HalilintarAnofial Asmid lahir di Dumai pada 13 Oktober 1968. Sementara sang istri, Lenggogeni "Gen" Faruk kelahiran Pekanbaru, 29 Oktober 1972. Sama-sama berdarah Minang, keduanya bertemu lantaran sekampus menimba ilmu, yaitu di Universitas Indonesia. Gen adalah mahasiswi Fakultas Ekonomi, sementara Halilintar dari Fakultas Teknik.
